About the Division

The Workforce Strategy, Equity & Engagement Division was formed in 2014 to join the University offices that strive to make Carolina a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere: the Office of Human Resources, the Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office, and the University Office for Diversity and Inclusion. In bringing these three critical areas together into a single division, we have significantly increased collaboration, created campus-wide opportunities for compliance training and engagement, and continue to advance Carolina’s mission to provide a welcoming, equitable, and stimulating educational environment for all.

These three offices work to implement strategies for supporting and enriching Carolina’s workforce, complying with EO/ADA laws, and enhancing inclusiveness across all parts of our campus.

Workforce Strategy, Equity and Engagement is led by Vice Chancellor Felicia A. Washington.

About our units

  • Office of Human Resources: OHR is the central office responsible for HR operations covering all non-faculty (SHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty) employees, including employment compliance, benefit administration, and compensation. OHR works in partnership with campus school/division HR offices to provide a variety of programs and services to support and develop employees, and ensure that human resources policies, practices, and procedures are fully and correctly implemented.
  • Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office: EOC has primary responsibility for developing, implementing, and executing policies and activities that arise from the University’s commitment to foster equitable treatment to employees and students and its obligation to comply with employment laws, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX, and other related state and federal laws and regulations.
  • University Office for Diversity and Inclusion: D&I has primary responsibility for providing University-wide leadership on best practices and strategies to build and sustain an inclusive campus community. D&I promotes the principles of equity and inclusion in recruitment, through diversity education and functions, and development programming. D&I strives to position Carolina to fulfill its mission of educating a diverse student body with the added goal of aspiring to attract and retain faculty and staff reflective of our larger community while maintain an unwavering commitment to excellence.
